Gauging understanding
Take-home tests, homework, and projects are no longer as useful in gauging understanding. Instead, in-person tests are becoming more useful.
I think that, from a learning perspective, the butt-in-chair quizzes have been the single most positive change I have made to my classes. I now make quizzes 50% of a student’s grade, and my class grading curve has returned to a reasonable shape.”
AI as a TA
AI can serve as a good TA, especially with the use of a good CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md file.
Creating visualizations
AI can greatly speed up the process of making visualizations that help the students to understand ideas and processes.
Everything should be in Markdown
AI can understand Markdown really well, so it makes it easier to use AI when all materials are in Markdown.
AI vs non-AI Tracks
For competitions, presentations, etc., split groups into AI vs non-AI tracks.
