Link: The Art of Craftmanship (Monozukuri) in the Age of AI
Often in today’s world, AI is used to replace the worker. This is not how AI should be used. Instead, AI should be a craftsman’s tool. It can be used to speed up the tedious or repetitive parts of coding without replacing the thinking part.
Monozukuri is a Japanese word that “embodies the spirit, skill, and pride of a craftsman”. It is a focus on the process, rather than just the outcome. AI is all about the outcome, and therefore can never understand or embody the outcome.

The Value of Things talks about how there is a difference between utility and meaning. Meaning is about the process, while utility is about the outcome. Monozukuri produces meaning, AI produces utility.
The fall of the theorem economy talks about how AI can produce mathematical proofs without producing any understanding of those proofs. Part of the value of proofs is the understanding that comes with discovering a proof, so this renders AI proofs somewhat worthless. In other words, without monozukuri, mathematical proofs don’t have as much meaning.
